Officials discuss summer work in Superior
Superior residents had a lot of questions for officials on Wednesday night at a meeting concerning the soil samples that the Environmental Protection Agency had done last summer and work that is being planned for this summer. Superior mayor Mike Wood opened the meeting by thanking everyone for coming out noting that there was a lot of work to be done this summer.

Detention Center expected to reopen by mid-February
Several people who attended the Mineral County Commissioner meeting on Friday, Jan. 26 had the opportunity to tour the newly remodeled jail cells in the Detention Center. County Commissioners, Roman Zylawy, Duane Simons, and Laurie Johnston, along with County Attorney, Ellen Donohue; videographer, Mary Furlong; and Administrative Assistant, Kasey Feasel were able to see the newly painted cells and refurbished floor as well as the dispatch center.
Mineral County receives funds to assist with water, sewer projects
Mineral County has been allocated funds from the American Recovery Act to assist in meeting the critical need for investments in projects that improve access to clean drinking water and improve wastewater and storm water infrastructure systems.
Fair Board holds emergency meeting

Approximately 7,295 tons, consisting primarily of Douglas-fir sawlogs, are offered for sale. Sealed bids will be opened at the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, 2705 Spurgin Road, Missoula, Montana on January 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Bids may be hand delivered or mailed and will be accepted any time prior to the bid opening. DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Trust Land Management Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of $5,103.00, representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. Award of the timber sale is conditional upon approval of the timber sale by the State Board of Land Commissioners at their January 17, 2017 meeting. If the successful bidder is unable to execute the contract within 21 calendar days from the date the sale is awarded, the bid deposit will be retained by the Department as liquidated damages. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids. Prospective bidders can obtain the sale prospectus, sale contract and bid forms from the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, Trust Land Management Division, in Missoula (406-542-4300), the Northwestern Land Office in Kalispell (406-751-2257), or the Plains Unit Office in Plains, MT (406-826-4723). Fire department trains for real-life emergencies
On Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department held extrication training which required volunteers to take apart wrecked cars with the Jaws of Life. They cut and sawed through thick metal car frames, broke windows and safely deployed air bags as part of their training.

Amateur Radio Club hones skills for emergencies during Field Day
The Haugan’s Heroes amateur radio club arrived Friday morning on June 23 at Savenac Historic Nursery with the aim of setting up two stations for the annual American Radio Relay League Field Day. The league is a national association for amateur radio and Field Day is held every year during the fourth weekend in June.

Alberton Community Center is beneficiary of a $4,940 grant
The cracked, rotted and leaking windows in the Alberton Community Center will soon be replaced after the town received a $4,940 grant earlier this month for the historic building.

A new bipartisan bill proposed late last month by U.S. Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) hopes to support the outdoor economy by exempting outfitters and guides from what outdoor industry officials say are burdensome overtime requirements.

Letter to the editor
The week of Nov. 13 was a very memorable and busy week for me. The governor called the Legislature back to town on Monday to help fix the budget deficit. I am on the House Business and Labor Committee and we were scheduled to meet jointly with the Senate Business and Labor. I missed the Monday meeting with a higher priority — my mother’s funeral service was that afternoon.
