Months seek to bring awareness to skin cancer, sun safety

The most diagnosed type of cancer in the United States is also the cancer that is not only treated the most successfully, but also the type of cancer that is perhaps the most preventable. According to Terry Egan, cancer control program coordinator for region one (Missoula, Mineral and Ravalli counties) for the Montana Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (MCCCP), a supporting partner to the Montana Cancer Control Coalition (MTCCC), over one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the states this year.

Weeksville Fire spreading

A trailer house is on fire Friday afternoon at Highway 200 in Weeksville. The fire is at approximately mile marker 67. There are reports that a propane tank has exploded and is spreading northbound up the hill, according to The Valley Press Reporter Erin Jusseaume, who is currently on the scene. Stage one fire restrictions to be lifted in many areas

SANDERS COUNTY - Federal, state, and local government wildland fire agencies in West Central Montana will rescind Stage I fire restrictions, effective Friday, September 13th at 12:01 a.m. A complete list of counties that are rescinding Stage I restrictions is available at firerestrictions.us. Stage I restricts campfires, not debris burning. The counties of Missoula and Ravalli are maintaining their bans on outdoor debris burning, and residents in other counties should consult their local authorities regarding debris and agricultural permit requests.
