PBA makes 2017 plans
The Plains Business Association (PBA) met for its annual strategic planning for 2017 last week. Approximately 20 business owners met Tuesday Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss what will be kept, changed, or added this year. The board retained many of its officers from last year and is looking for one member. There were three presentations during the meeting, one by Kenton Pies, one by Karen Thorson, and the third was from John Thorson.

The Mineral County We Care Foundation got a huge shot-in-the arm when they recently teamed up with Shyrock Motorcoach & RV Park, located in Superior. The We Care Foundation has been around the area for eight years, helping families meet their needs for things like housing, fuel, medical bills and car repairs.

Law enforcement appreciation week
SANDERS COUNTY- The new FWP Region 1 Game Warden, Troy Hinks, set out last week on Wednesday on a trip up a back country road to examine a set of animal trap sites that were found along some streams. His mission was to make sure that the trap sites were not live, were within a legal area, and to see what people were trapping for along the mountain road.

PLAINS – The New Year’s Eve night sky was illuminated with every color of the rainbow. Sky lanterns were released at the fairgrounds to honor loved ones that have suffered from cancer. The lanterns seemed to be beacons of hope warding off the ever-present darkness.

People who prefer federal control are trying to convince everyone that Montanans would sell all the public lands if we are put in charge of them. No chance. Popularity for transferring control of federal public lands to the state is growing because of the inability of the federal government to manage these lands, or much of anything else, responsibly.
