HAUGAN – For the past twenty years, the historic Savenac Nursery near Haugan has welcomed volunteers who come to the facility for one week in the summer to help maintain a place that was instrumental in rebuilding forests in the area after the devastating fire of 1910 swept through the region destroying nearly everything in its path.

SANDERS COUNTY – Blistering winds and buckets of snow hit Sanders County this week and bitter cold is soon to follow. These weather conditions, courtesy of Jack Frost, forced the Hot Springs schools to close early Monday.

The Hot Springs Savage Heat had their first practice of the season on Monday as athletes and coaches gathered on the gridiron behind the high school. About 20 players attended the practice designed to provide coaches with an early look at what they will have to work with during the 2013-2014 season.

A large crowd of Mineral County residents gathered at the steps of the Mineral County Courthouse on April 9 to honor the countless number of volunteers as part of the first ever Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service.

County residents headed to polls Tuesday
With campaign signs and window stickers, the citizens of Mineral County have been acknowledging who they'd like to see in office. Yesterday, June 8, they took one of the first steps to making that happen as they joined many Americans across the country by heading to the polls to cast ballots in the primary election. Of course, others voted earlier, choosing to vote through the mail. Clerk of Court Recorder Katherine Jasper said that a good percentage of the absentee ballots have been returned.

Remember when you could drink and drive, you just couldn’t drive drunk? So, what is it going to take to get some people to quit drinking and driving over the limit? Is death going to be the answer?
