Earl Henry Eisenbacher, 77, passed away Jan. 2, 2017, at his home in St. Regis, with family members at his side after a valiant battle against cancer.

Arctic blast causes severe issues
Last week Western Montana watched as the thermometers dipped well below zero, as an arctic blast covered the area. According to reports, a record low was set on Jan. 3 in Missoula when temperatures dropped to minus-8 degrees. The lowest recorded temperature prior to this was 3 degrees set in 1959.

Woman disgusted by decapitated carcass
Someone on Waverly Place reported seeing a decapitated giant elk or deer hanging from a second-floor balcony and was concerned that it was going to “attract varmints and bears,” and “that it is just plain disgusting,” according to the Whitefish Police Department.
Look for new faces as school starts in Mineral County
Students have sharpened their pencils and are starting a new year of school. St. Regis started on August 25, Alberton and Superior started on Monday, August 29. All of the schools have new teachers to greet them. In St. Regis and Superior, they also have new administrators to help get the year off to a good start.

Legislation introduced for tax savings for FFA, 4-H student projects
The Montana Farm Bureau is urging Congressional support for S. 2774, the Agriculture Student EARN Act. The Act, introduced by Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), would make the first $5,000 of income earned by students completing 4-H or FFA agricultural projects tax free. Farm Bureau also supports companion legislation introduced in the House by Representatives Michael McCaul (R-Texas), Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and Michael Conaway (R-Texas). That bill is H.R. 3255, the Student Agriculture Protection Act of 2015.
