Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks researchers are launching a new multi-year study on black bears this month aimed at better understanding and estimating the population across the state. The first season of field research will focus on areas in west-central Montana, including the Blackfoot River watershed from Gold Creek through Ovando and Helmville.

Reaching retirement is like being a kid and getting the last bowl out of a box of sweet cereal. That last bowl has all the sugar that fell off the grainy nuggets and its super sweet. Retirement is enjoying the sugary rewards from a lifetime of dedication and hard work. Rewards like sipping a cup of coffee on a long summer morning, vacations that never end, and not having to take calls.

What are Mineral County's wolves up to?
Bringing up the subject of wolves remains touchy. A flashpoint for many who have nothing good to say about them for reasons of their own. How the deer population has dropped. The elk are gone, at least in the areas many hunters always could find them.
Meeting held about recent crime spree
NOXON - Tuesday night saw emotions run high as concerned citizens voiced opinions, asked questions and regaled fellow citizens and elected officials with personal stories about the rash of crime in the western section of Sanders County. A meeting that was originally planned for the fire hall in Noxon had to be moved to the Noxon school’s multipurpose room to accommodate the number of citizens who attended. So many people showed up, that several had to stand along the walls and back into the hallway. The meeting was held so Sheriff Tom Rummel, Undersheriff Lanny Hensley, Commissioner Tony Cox and County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Zimmerman could address the community on the crime problem and answer questions or concerns of the public. Commissioner Carol Brooker was present, but sat with the public.
