Fire department trains for real-life emergencies
On Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department held extrication training which required volunteers to take apart wrecked cars with the Jaws of Life. They cut and sawed through thick metal car frames, broke windows and safely deployed air bags as part of their training.

Vera Lawrence, 91, passed away on Dec. 23, 2012. A memorial service will be held in her honor on March 16, 2013 at the Superior Cemetery.
Superior natives make the deans list at University Montana Western
The University of Montana Western announced its Fall 2012 Dean’s List, which includes local residents currently studying at the institution in Dillon, Mont. The Dean’s List includes students achieving a 3.33 Grade Point Average (GPA) or better.

Superior students play for community
The Superior Elementary School gym was filled with the sounds of music and applause last Tuesday afternoon when parents, friends and students gathered together to listen to the Superior Elementary Spring Concert.

This year the Superior Lions Club is seeking applications for both a 2018 Junior Rodeo Princess and Rodeo Princess. The Junior Rodeo Princess will serve along with the selected Rodeo Princess and this year’s Rodeo Queen Madison Hill. The Go for the Gold Rodeo will be held during the 2018 Mineral County Fair scheduled for Aug. 3-4.

Superior Junior High School demolished
It only took three days to tear down the aging Superior Junior High building located across the road from the Mineral County Fair Grounds. The demolition started on Tuesday, Jan. 29 and was completely gone and hauled away by Thursday.

New firehouse needed in Superior
One walk through the firehouse in Superior and someone might notice that there are more than a few problems with the building that houses the Superior Volunteer Fire Department. Fire chief John Woodland knows the problems all too well. In fact, he’s been working since he arrived four and half years ago to get the department a new building.
