Taking a whack at re-enactment

Arguably the biggest draw at David Thompson Days: A Community Rendezvous was the re-enactment camp, which was set up at the Rose Garden along Main Street. Visitors to the camp were sent back to the early 1800s as re-enactors showed them how to make authentic beaded jewelry, how to throw a tomahawk and how to cook with the tools of the day. The camp also displayed a 25-foot-long replica of the canoe David Thompson used to travel the rivers on the area when he was first exploring.

HOT SPRINGS – The first Town Council Meeting of the year took place Tuesday evening Jan. 7. The meeting began with Mayor Randy Woods taking the oath of office once again, and Leslee Smith was re-appointed Town Council President. The main topic of discussion was Public Works and town maintenance.

Emergency vehicles from Plains and other communities converged at the old airport in Plains Saturday afternoon, Jan. 29, for defensive driving exercises. Ambulances, search and rescue trucks, brush trucks and one old yellow fire engine tore up and down the cracked and weathered tarmac, negotiating their way through bright orange traffic cones and getting a feel for what their vehicles can and cannot do.

In District 14C, Arlee took home the conference title after defeating Plains in the championship game on Friday. The Scarlets beat Charlo in the championship semifinals and the Vikings placed third. During play Noxon beat St. Regis 25-20; 21-25; 25-21; 25-20. St. Regis also fell to Arlee on Thursday, 25-17; 25-16; 25-11. Their stats were not available by press time.
