By Fire Marshall rules, the Mineral County Commissioners conference room is capped at having no more than 49 individuals. By 11:30 a.m. last Friday there were that many present with another two dozen in the hallway and 29 on the Go-To-Meeting screen.

Sunrise Fire tops 18,000 acres
By Sunday, Aug. 13, the Sunrise Fire had grown to 18,629 acres and was 20 percent contained. The fire was moving down Verde Creek and Trout Creek. Stage III evacuation orders went into place on Aug. 9 for Cougar Gulch, to join Quartz Creek and Verde Creek Zones. The fires growth continued in all directions except to the west with possible structure damage. If southwest winds prevailed it would threaten traffic along Interstate 90, Montana Rail Link, transmission lines and homes.

On Monday, March 25th, a date requested by the Governor, as a member of the House Human Services Committee, I and other members of the committee heard House Bill 590 – Medicaid Expansion, a big issue for the Legislature. On Wednesday, March 27th, the House Human Services Committee took executive action on HB 590 and on a partisan vote, Republicans opposing and Democrats supporting, HB 590, the Medicaid expansion bill, failed to pass the committee.

Car show in Hot Springs features unique classic vehicles
HOT SPRINGS – The Second Home Restaurant in Hot Springs was the site of the annual customer appreciation celebration on Saturday. The lineup of activities included a car show, something that had not been done in previous years.

My son and I live in San Francisco and come up here for the summer to visit family. Back home, I have had the hardest time helping my son learn to swim! The lessons are incredibly expensive and there are long waiting lists for classes. Well, I signed him up for lessons at the pool in Plains and it has been an amazing experience! I am so grateful to Laurel and her team for their patience and consistency. They are great instructors, and after one week, my boy is swimming with all the other fishes. Thank you so much!

Nearly a hundred people gathered together to raise their voices hoping they could somehow traverse the frigid air to warm the hearts of those in charge of the nation's abortion laws last Tuesday in Thompson Falls.

Plains graduate receives high honors
Plains High School graduate, Army Cadet Cody F. Fryxell received the George C. Marshall Award during an awards ceremony at the Marshall Center, Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The award is named in the honor and legacy of General of the Army George C. Marshall, who served in World War II as the Army Chief of Staff and in the post-war era served as secretary of state and secretary of defense.

PLAINS – The Plains Trotters split with a win and loss this week in two games. Their week started Tuesday as they topped the Lady Savage Heat 25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18 and ended with a conference loss to Bigfork in three sets 21-25, 17-25, 16-25.
