Above average hunter success for west-central Montana’s opener
After the first two weekends of big game season, west-central Montana hunter check stations are reporting elk and deer harvest totals that are up from last season and the five-year average.
Need for healthcare workers continues to grow in area
For several years Mineral County high school students have been able to spend a day at Mineral Community Hospital to explore careers in health care. Working with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and Research and Explore Awesome Careers in Healthcare, or REACH, students can explore a number of careers. Including lab work; X-rays; CT or computed tomography scanning; dentistry; public health; nursing; and emergency medical training.
Hunting season has begun; numbers look promising
Montana’s general deer and elk season opened on Oct. 21 and hunters are grabbing their rifles and orange gear and heading into the mountains. Fish, Wildlife and Park reports indicate that mule deer numbers are up and whitetail populations are beginning to recover after severe winter weather in the past.
Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic held in Superior
Thompson Falls won the Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic held over last Saturday, Dec. 9 with a team score of 184.5. Teams from all over the western Montana traveled to Superior to participate at the annual tournament. Though the number of teams remained about the same, Superior’s head wrestling coach, Charlie Crabb said the number of wrestlers had increased.

Sanders County—“Prescription drugs have become the new methamphetamine in this County as in other Counties across the Nation,” said Detective Dryden of the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office. “Prescription narcotic pain killers are fast becoming the number one form of illegal drug use.”
