St. Regis Senior, Madison Hill won the DUI Task Force logo contest. Her artwork was chosen by the taskforce committee a few weeks ago and last Thursday she was awarded $100 for her entry. The logo is an outline of Montana with DUI letters which look like a highway and Mineral County is starred.

Fire crews train for car accident extrication

The Valley Towing wrecking yard was full of fire trucks, men using the Jaws of Life and tearing apart cars Saturday, but not because anyone was in danger. More than 20 firefighters from the Plains Fire Department and the Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District practiced extrication for car accident situations under the guidance of Craig Jeppson from the Fire Services Training School.

Members of a unique fraternity gathered on Wednesday in Missoula at the headquarters of the smokejumpers to practice their habit of jumping out of airplanes into wildfires. Some smokejumpers, including Dan Helterline of Plains, were not in Missoula having been deployed to a fire in Virginia.
