'Backroads of Montana' anniversary special to feature Alberton resident
On Nov. 17 the crew from Montana PBS’s “Backroads of Montana” held a 25th Anniversary celebration at the Rialto Theatre in Deer Lodge. It was designed as a red carpet event, where special guests were interviewed as they entered the theater. Attendees were also offered free popcorn and were entered into a drawing for gift bags given throughout the night.

Food bank provides 100 Thanksgiving meals
The weekend before Thanksgiving is a busy one for volunteers at the Mineral County Food Bank in Superior as they prepared 100 bags of Thanksgiving food for their clients. Program manager Marlene Adair said that’s how many people signed up this year to receive a turkey with all the trimmings for their Nov. 24 meal.

Hospital puts the 'fun' in fundraiser with golf tourney
Trestle Creek Golf Course was hopping on Saturday as 13 teams knocked balls around the course for the annual Mineral County Medical Foundation golf tournament. It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year and brings is in between $10,000 to $12,000.

Wildfires continue to burn around region
Copper King fire burning eight miles east of Thompson Falls, started on Sunday, July 31. As of August 7 it has reached 1,398 acres. There were 389 firefighters on the scene and the fire is five percent contained. No evacuation orders as of Sunday.

Reporters Notebook: Historic tour of Cedar Creek a real Montana treat
One of the items on my bucket list is to hike into as many of the lakes in Mineral County as possible. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but wasn’t sure where they were located, or how hard it would be to hike into them. When the Mineral Community Hospital offered free hikes with Jim Cyr as the guide, I jumped at the chance.

Relay for Life
At 5 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the Superior High School track, some of Mineral County’s most loved citizens were in the limelight. This was when the 2016 Mineral County Relay for Life commenced with a celebratory reception for Mineral County cancer survivors.

Medical foundation fundraiser June 25

Madison Hill of St. Regis earns top honors at State
Madison Hill, a junior at St. Regis, took top honors in the long jump at the Class C State Track and Field meet in Missoula on Friday with 16-8.25. She was trailed by Claire Fickler from Drummond with 16-06.75. Ember Schwindt from Cascade took third with 16.05.75, followed by Carly Hergett of Arlee in fourth with 16-05.25.

Students recognized for local radon project
Superior students Mary Donally, Nathan Lapinski, and Aaron Kelly placed third on their presentation about the radon mitigation conducted within the school at the Clean Air and Healthy Homes competition held on May 17 in Missoula.
Busy summer ahead for area Forest Service crews
Forest Service agencies are gearing up for a busy summer with a number of projects in the works. Nate Kegel, and Carole Johnson with the Superior Ranger District met on separate occasions, with County Commissioners regarding the status of several projects in the Superior Ranger District. There was also a community meeting with the Ninemile Ranger District regarding updates on the Soldier Butler fuels reduction project, as well as other projects in the area.
Residents petition to re-open CyrIron Mountain Road
Several concerned residents attended the Mineral County Commissioners meeting on Friday, May 13, regarding the closure of the CyrIron Mountain Road located east of Superior.
