Youth Advocating Programs teach life skills to students

Alberton School will be hosting a group called Youth Advocating Prevention, or YAP for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. The group will meet weekly at the school on Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting Nov. 30.

Markkaya Jean (Bugsy) McGann Gullett of Superior became our “angel in heaven” on May 22, 2015 as a result of a car accident. She was born May 14, 1992. A Memorial Service will be held  Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Plains Bible Chapel,  243 Combest Creek Rd,  Plains, MT , with Potluck meal afterward (turn left past the fairgrounds).

County properties will soon be tobacco free

Starting on Jan. 1, 2017 all county properties will tobacco free, including chew and electronic delivery devices, or e-cigs. Properties include the main courthouse campus, library, health department, road department, county owned parks, extension office, and fairgrounds.

Resource coalition has projects in the works

The Mineral County Resource Coalition held their monthly meeting in early March to discuss various projects happening in the area. The coalition consists of department personnel from the U.S. Forest Service, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks, and the MSU Mineral County Extension office.

County students discover healthcare careers

SUPERIOR - On Wednesday, February 5, St.Regis High School and Alberton High School students will take part in a R.E.A.C.H. program hosted by Mineral Community Hospital. On the consecutive Wednesday, Superior High School students will attend an identical program. R.E.A.C.H., which stands for Research and Explore Awesome Careers in Healthcare, was developed by the Montana Area Health Education Center in 2007. The Western Montana Area Health Education Center (WMT-AHEC) R.E.A.C.H. program provides an opportunity for students to have hands-on exposure to latest equipment, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry. Students will spend the morning at Mineral Community Hospital (MCH), working in teams, rotating through a variety of departments, where MCH professionals will provide a close-up view of job duties, daily practice, policy and procedures, and explain the education and training required for their positions.Larry Putnam, Mineral Community Hospital CEO and hospital staff are choreographing the day’s events to include student visits to Radiology, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Lab, Surgery and ER.

Hot Springs Clinic holds grand opening

About 300 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception to celebrate the grand opening of the new medical clinic in Hot Springs on Wednesday. The clinic began providing care for patients a week prior to the event and was built largely with support from private donors across Sanders County.
