James and Shirley DeBree honored by Order of Eastern Star

People from Mineral and Sanders County attended a ceremony to celebrate Jim and Shirley DeBree. They were awarded a 50-year Membership pin for Service from the Order of the Eastern Star on Tuesday, Mar. 28. The couple joined Eastern Star in Superior on September 25, 1962. Jim’s folks, Mary and Cecil DeBree, were Worthy Matron and Patron for Mary Baldwin Chapter #87.

Jim was presented his 50-year pin by Worthy Matron Maggie Dahl, while members of Mary Baldwin Chapter read from the 1962 minutes and reminisced with him as he remembered his initiation. Shirley could not attend this evening celebration, so the members gave Jim a dozen roses for her, and will present Shirley with her pin at a later date.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a social, fraternal organization comprised of dedicated women and men who reflect the spirit of fraternal love and the desire to work for the good of others. It is considered a privilege to help one another whenever we can, and Jim and Shirley DeBree exemplify the true meaning of what this organization does.

Eastern Star is a nonprofit organization helping to raise funds for many charities such as Heart and Cancer research, Service Dogs for those in need, and providing scholarships for those seeking Christian Ministries education.

After the ceremony everyone enjoyed cake and punch.
