Clark Fork Cats win on the road over Victor

On Friday night, the Cats faced the Pirates in Victor with a pair of victories. The boy’s varsity won of 55-50 and the girls won 44-34. The Pirates led at the half with 28-24 but the score was tied by the end of the third quarter, 41-41. In the fourth quarter, the Cats pounded back and managed to put 14 points on the board to the Pirates 9 for the win.

Bryan Mask had a game high of 28 points, Michael Spence 13, Nick Turnbull 10, both Jack Calloway and Korey Radford has 2 each.

The Pirates took an early lead against the girls with a 14-11 edge by the end of the first quarter. But then the Lady Cats pounced in the second and leapt ahead, 22 to 18. They kept their lead in the third and fourth quarters scoring 22 points in the second half of the game to the Pirates 16.

Hailey Kelly led the Cats with 16 points, followed by Samantha Clevenger and Kenzie Mueller each with 10, and Madison Mask had 8.

On Saturday, the Clark Fork Mountain Cats were scheduled to play against Pablo, but the non-conference games were cancelled due to severe driving conditions.

St. Regis wins big at Two Eagle River

St. Regis traveled to Pablo for back-to-back wins on the road against Two Eagle River. The boy’s varsity won 60-47 and the girls won 68-21. The boys put up an early lead in the first quarter, 18 to 8. They maintained an eight point lead at the half with 28-20. Both teams put up 10 points in the third quarter, but then the Tigers pulled ahead again in the fourth quarter with 22 points to Two Eagles 17.

Brock Cantrell-Field led the evening game with 25 points. Brandon Managhan had 11, Trevor Lowry 10, Eric Eslick 4, Nic Day 3, and Andrew Sanford 2.

The Lady Tigers turned up the heat in the first quarter and left it on throughout the game. They put up a tail-spinning 21 points in the first quarter to Two Eagle’s eight. The second quarter was a close repeat with the Tigers additional 23 points to the Eagle’s six. In the final quarter, the Eagle’s only managed two points.

The Madison’s lead the way for the Tigers with Madison Hill putting up 16 points, and Madison Kelly 15. Courtney Cheesman had 10, Emma Hill 8, Kylee Thompson 9, Anna Sanford 5, Grace Shope 3 and Justice Tate 2.

Clark Fork boys suffer road defeat in Charlo

Clark Fork Mountain Cats boy basketball team met defeat when they played Charlo, 52-31. The team traveled to Charlo on Monday, Jan. 31 to play a supplemental game that will not count toward either teams’ record.

The game was scheduled after the teams received a forfeit win over St. Ignatius. The game doesn’t count because both teams have already counted the forfeit as a win and an additional game would put them over the maximum number allowed by the state.

Nick Turnbull led the Cats with 18 points, Bryan Mask added eight points to the board, Michael Spence three and Taryn Ververis two.

Mixed bag as St. Regis plays Plains at home: Girls win, boys lose

St. Regis boys lost to Plains at home on Saturday night, 77-36. Plains jump started the game with an early lead putting up 20 points by the end of the first quarter to the Tigers 11. They continued to dominate in the second quarter, with a half-time score of 44-19. In the third quarter, Plains put up another 24 points, with St. Regis putting up 9. Brock Cantrell-Field had the most points for the Tigers with 21. Trevor Lowry had 7, Eric Eslick 4, Brandon Managhan 3 and Nic Day 1.

The St. Regis Lady Tigers squeaked by with a win against Plain on Saturday, 38-36. Plains jumped into the lead in the first quarter putting up 14 points to St. Regis who lagged behind with 3. But, the Lady Tigers pushed back in the second quarter and added 16 more points to the board, with a half-time score of 20-18. Plains led by two. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers were down 30-23. But they sprang to action in the fourth quarter putting up 14 points for the win by two points.

Madison Hill led the team with 11 points. Justice Tate had 9; Emma Hill 8; Courtney Cheesman 6; Kylee Thompson 3; and Madison Kelly 1.
