Students learn life lessons through newspapers

HOT SPRINGS – Newspapers in Education is a program designed to help teach students about the world around them. Most use national news coverage of events to educate students. Hot Springs fifth grade teacher Bart Granlund however, uses the Valley Press to give his students a better understanding of what is going on around them.

Skatepark and more planned for Alberton

Ever since 2016, members of the PEAK Foundation in Alberton have dreamt of renovating the town park. Now, their dream will come true with an official ground breaking in early June. Armed with a $10,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation, the money can be added to the pot to fund the project. Once they reach $150,000, Montana State Parks will match that amount dollar-for-dollar to complete the $300,000 renovation.

SOUTH TAMARACK — Firefighters are battling a 13-acre blaze six miles north of St. Regis using air and ground resources to set a perimeter around the area. Forest service officials estimate the fire is at five percent containment as of Saturday morning.

Gusty winds on Sunday force ground and air resources to pull back from Beeskove fire

Sunday’s predicted weather materialized with sustained winds of more than 30 miles per hour and air resources battling the Beeskove fire were grounded due to the gusty winds for several hours and crews and aircraft were pulled from the fire line for safety.
