Summer camp enriches lives in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS- Participants in the 2013 Hot Springs Summer Arts Camp demonstrated what they had learned in the previous two weeks during a show and exhibition at the senior center on Friday. Visual arts were on display as about a hundred audience members filed into the facility to watch a presentation by the performing arts students.

CF wrestlers busy at Ronan Duals; Lady Cats top Victor

The 50th annual Dave Edington Western Montana Duals were held in Ronan on Jan. 4 and 5 where wrestlers from 19 teams participated, including the Clark Fork Mountain Cats (CF), Plains/Hot Springs, Polson, Corvallis, Glacier, Columbia Falls, Hamilton, Stevensville, Frenchtown and Townsend.

Avalanche closes I-90 for 27 hours

While skiers at Lookout Pass Ski Area were enjoying nearly 50 inches of new snow last week, emergency crews were kept busy dealing with a series of avalanches along Interstate 90. The first two snow slides occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 13 — both in the westbound lanes. One was a mile east of the Montana/Idaho border and the other was at Mile Marker 33.5 around 2:40 p.m. By 4:30 p.m., Interstate 90 was closed at St. Regis, which stranded hundreds of vehicles.

It was not a turnover plague that proved to be the downfall for the Thompson Falls girls at the Western B Divisional Basketball Tournament last week at the Ronan Event Center. It was inability to show consistent offensive production.

RIP Stinky Renegade black goat dies after years in the wild

A legend died in Deborgia last week by the name of Colt (a.k.a. Stinky). A black goat who famously hung out on a rocky cliff off Interstate 90 near a cell tower. Marsha and Tom Hoag, who live below the cliff, often saw Colt since he would drink from their pond and hang out on their property.

Battle over Cyr Road closure continues

Diane Magone has continued to pound the drum at a steady pace regarding the nearly 6-year-old closure of the Cyr Iron Mountain Road. During the January Mineral County Resource Coalition meeting, she once again was on the agenda to keep the coalition members up to date on what is happening with its public access.

Car Show revs into Superior

Classic cars lined the lawn outside the old school house in Superior Saturday afternoon. Oldies music played and pictures were taken as car enthusiasts joined together for the 12th annual Old School House Rock Car Show.
