COLUMN: Christmas wish list

Ordinarily, when the world does not seem like it’s upside down or inside out, I usually ask Santa this time of year, to bring good things to folks I know.

An update from Rep. Ingraham

On Wednesday, April 24th, the 63rd Legislative Session came to an official end and we all headed back home to renew friendships and reunite with family. For some, like myself, it was a bitter-sweet moment in time, even though my term of service in the House of Representatives won’t officially come to an end until the first part of January 2015, it was my last Legislative Session unless the Governor were to call for a special session.

Western Montana lions offer unique hunting experience

High in the snow-covered mountains along the I-90 corridor houndsmen across Mineral County run Forest Service roads with hunting partners and their dogs, scanning for mountain lion tracks and ready to set their canines loose on a fresh cat trail.

A nice, quiet candidate

Quietly going about his campaign, Tom Rummel has not resorted to mudslinging.  He is doing everything you expect of a competent and good candidate for sheriff.  He is a mature and wise candidate.  He’s been around for half a century, and his time in the Sheriff Department has given him the experience to be Sheriff. He has a warm and loving family. If you were fortunate enough to see the picture in the paper of Tom sawing down the monstrous tree you know he is brave and thoughtful and attests to the fact that in all the years he worked in the woods he never had a serious accident. He is a straight arrow and won’t play favorites. My family and many friends and I support Tom Rummel for sheriff.

A citizen legislator's first year

One year ago I packed up my truck and left this beautiful, rugged part of Montana to spend sixteen weeks in the crowded city of Helena. Not to seek a better life for myself, nor a higher income, nor fame or glory. I went to serve my fellow man as a citizen legislator, not a politician.

Hot Springs ready for district meet

Hot Springs' seniors Randi Arnold and Devon White are forming quite a duo in the triple jump. After Arnold placed first at the Sanders County Meet in Noxon on Thursday with a jump of 33-10, adding at least three feet to her previous best jump, White turned around and placed first in the same event with a jump of 32-8 on Saturday at the Seeley Swan Invitational in Missoula.

Runners excel at the Edge

Peaking at just the right time – that’s the whole purpose of the 10-week cross country season.  It’s where the science of training meets the art of experience.  As a coach, you put together a mix of quality and quantity; work and recovery; motivation and support; and, above all, hope.  Hope that the plan included enough mileage – but, not too much; hope that you pushed them hard enough – but, not so hard that they crossed the fine line into injury or illness; hope that you gave them the direction needed to be successful; and, hope that you did the right thing for each of the 10 wonderfully unique individual athletes that were part of the 2010 Plains High School Cross Country team.

Thompson Falls boys barely miss out on state crown

Coach Randy Symon has seen this story before. With only the mile relay standing between his team and the state Class B track title, fortune frowns on the Bluehawks and the chips fall the way of the opponent denying them the crown and leaving them with the second place trophy.
