Nolan Thomas Frankhauser was born at 1:37 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Clark Fork Valley Hospital to mother Natalie Frankhauser and father Jason Franhauser, of Plains. Nolan joins Josie Frankhauser. He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20 inches. Nolan’s maternal grandparents are Thomas Ruzicka, of Sacramento, Tracy Ruzicka, of Big Spring, Texas. His maternal great-grandparent is Dewey Sigmon, of Lockhart, South Carolina. Nolan’s paternal grandparents are Tom Price, of Seattle, Diane Price, of Tacoma, Washington, and great-grandparent Lillian Gravseth, of Tacoma, Washington. The West End Fire and Rescue Department responded to an accident on the eastbound lane of Interstate 90 Sunday evening, and utilized some newly acquired training and equipment.

Mineral County loses dispatcher Newart

After working for the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office for almost 10 years, 911 dispatcher Robert Newart has decided to hang up the dispatch phone on Tuesday, May 28. He’s one of three dispatchers who have recently left the job, right behind Roni Philips and Brandon Church. “He was very friendly and outgoing and knew how to make people calmer in a bad situation,” St. Regis Assistant Fire Chief Kat Kitteridge said. “He knew just what to do and say.” Dispatchers have a tough job. Their duties include listening to the radio while many different systems go off, including Mineral County’s deputies, fire departments and Emergency Medical Systems. “They’re the hinge pin to the county,” Kitteridge says. “They’ve got to be very attentive to what’s going on.” Newart, 34, began his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a detention officer 10 years ago and was transferred to dispatch after six months. “I liked the fact that I was helping the community, whether it was simple questions about road conditions or when open burn was to helping people that were in life or death situations,” Newart said.

It seemed like everybody was calling Mariah Naegeli's name on Thursday at the Plains Methodist Church. The Thompson Falls' senior, known for her community service in 4-H, was doing what she does best. She was helping.

Jim Johnson meet kicks off track season St. Regis, Clark Fork athletes in top slots

The snow has finally melted on the fields, just in time for track season to begin at area high schools. Athletes from St. Regis, Superior and Alberton packed their gear and headed to Frenchtown for their first meet of the season, the Jim Johnson meet. Johnson is a retired teacher from Alberton and started the tournament nine year ago. He was there again this year, with his stop watch, timing runners as they crossed the finish line.
