Flushed pillowcase blamed for Alberton sewer backup
The city of Alberton on Dec. 31, 2021 became aware of a sewer system failure that created an issue of sewage backing up in a manhole on the west end of Parkway Drive. When the manhole became full, the sewage overflowed and was pushed back into at least one resident’s home.

No to property tax increases
One item that is to be voted on Nov. 4 is the request to increase our property taxes in support of college expenses. I recommend that we vote no to approve an increase on our property taxes for the following three reasons:

Local teams gather in Plains to scrimmage
PLAINS- Football teams from Mission, Hot Springs and Plains met at the football field at Plains High School to scrimmage and run drills in preparation for the upcoming fall season. The teams took turns on defense and offense, practicing running and throwing the ball into the end-zone.

Plains Horsemen and Trotters hoping for successful track season
The Horsemen and Trotters have a team of boys and girls that could very well surprise many competing against them this year. Even though the team had five seniors graduate last year and go on to compete in colleagiate track this year throughout the western region, Plains remains a contender to place high in track this year. There are nine boys on the track team this year, eight more than the previous year. Some of the members of the team are new to track, as Head Coach Denise Montgomery discussed during a recent practice.

HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Lady Savage Heat were defeated in their game against Arlee Thursday, but not before they put up an intense fight and made the Scarlets work for the victory.

Trotters overpower Lady Vikings
PLAINS – The Trotters came away with a victory and a loss last week, after their Friday and Saturday games against Charlo and Troy.
Superior school holds open house
SUPERIOR – The Superior School District hosted an open house event on Tuesday, Aug. 26, in order to provide parents and students with important information prior to the start of classes on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
