Sanders County traffic stop yields illegal drugs
On Friday, Oct. 26, Sanders County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Roy Scott stopped a vehicle on Highway 28 in Sanders County for a traffic violation. During the course of the stop, Scott observed indicaptors that the vehicle may be transporting illegal drugs. Further investigation revealed that there was methamphetamine, along with illegal marijuana in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and is being held in the Sanders County Detention Facility.

Veterans frustrated with Choices Program
The frustration in the room was palpable as Mineral County veterans expressed their concerns about the Veteran’s Choice Program, implemented in 2015. Representatives from Senator Jon Tester’s office were in Superior Friday to listen to what local vets had to say about the program. The vets, along with medical administrators, told stories of long wait times to get in contact with people to schedule appointments; their inability to get medical appointments scheduled and of bills not paid.
Community Notes
The final community pot luck will be held in the 4-H Building at the Mineral County Fair Grounds starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. There will also be a speaker with a 25-30 minute program of interest. Coffee and lemonade will be provided along with the plates, napkins and utensils.

Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Allen will not seek the death penalty as a sentencing option for accused murderer MajorJon Kaylor, according to a release from his office.

The Montana Legislature only meets in session for 90 work days every other year, so our next session will commence in January, 2015. In between those sessions is referred to as “the interim”, and some Representatives and Senators are given appointments during that time to sit on an interim committee.

Witness, juror fees raise cost of Guill trial
The longest trial ever in Sanders County, which found Douglas Guill guilty of all five felonies last week, came at a high cost. Clerk of District Court Dianne Rummel said she wouldn't be surprised if the cost amounted to around $25,000 because of the many witness fees and juror compensations.
