The Bad Actors Law is a Montana mining law that was passed because there was a pattern of irresponsible behavior by some Montana mining company chief officers. This pattern often resulted in major pollution and bankruptcy filings, while the officers moved on to the next mine leaving the costs and impacts on taxpayers.

Denley Loge was recently recognized for his 16 years of service on the Board of Supervisors by the Mineral Conservation District and the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Denley retired from the Conservation District last year after he was elected into the Montana House of Representatives for District 14, where he represents Mineral and Sanders Counties.

Officials discuss public water safety

There was a Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting on Thursday. At the meeting, Shelly Nolan with Montana Rural Water Systems, reported that she has been working on an initial assessment of the county’s water systems. With the information she’s gathered, the next step would be to create a management plan with local communities.

Dallas Layne Beals, age 75 of Walla Walla, passed away at his home on Monday, May 11, 2015.  He was born to the late Dallas and Mary Beals on Sept 26, 1939 in Silesia, Montana.  He graduated from Edgar (MT) High School in 1957 and enlisted in the US Navy.  He was assigned to the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and he made two WestPac deployments.  After his discharge, he moved back to Montana and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Sielinsky.

Car show draws crowds despite cloudy conditions

TROUT CREEK - Clouds and threats of rain could not stop the 9th annual Cool Summer Nights Car Show in Trout Creek at the Lakeside Motel and Resort. Overcast skies looked to washout the car show, however by the start of the show at 10 a.m. the number of cars outdid the rainy expectation. Cars, trucks, pickups and motorcycles lined up on the grass, pavement and inside of the restaurant. In all, 36 vehicles lined up for the day with sunny to overcast skies. The voting for the people’s and driver’s choice awards were completed by spectators as well as the drivers. A deadline of 2 p.m. was established for votes, which allowed one hour to tally up the numbers and announce the winners by 3 p.m.
