Two-time defending state champion Trae Thilmony opened strong with a dominating run through the 145-pound bracket.

Superior School Board trustee election is May 2
Superior School will be holding a mail ballot election for school board of trustee positions on May 2, 2017. Ballot were mailed out last week for two open positions. Current board member, Kate DiGiando, is stepping down and Michelle Parkin, who is the current board chair, is running for re-election.

Superior spelling bee winners
The Superior school spelling bee was held last week, with seventh-grader Liam Wheeler winning with the word "weird." Sixth-grader Ava White took second place.

Little Guy Wrestling kicks off in Superior
Little Guy Wrestling season began on Saturday in Superior with a tournament from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tournament was a non-placement tournament so that young grapplers could gain live wrestling experience. Kids from all around Sanders County take part in this wrestling team.

First grader Lanie Crabb plays "Merrily We Roll On" during the elementary school talent show. The talent show took place at the Superior Elementary School gym and was well attended. Students from first to sixth grade showcased a variety of talents during the fun filled evening.

Mineral County Rodeo Royalty
Here are the members of the Mineral County Rodeo royalty, all students at Superior High School. From left, are Heather Haskins, Mineral County Rodeo Princess. Her horse is Cedar. Sixteen-year-old Darby Haskins, Mineral County Rodeo Queen. Darby was the Princess last year. Her horse is Spirit. Baily Hansen, Mineral County Rodeo Junior Princess. Her horse is Oz. Their tiaras are paid for by the $50,000 Silver Dollar Bar in Haugan each year. They are made by Montana Silversmiths. The Superior Lions Club presented each with a check last Thursday. Senior night in Superior
Saturday was Senior Night for the Lady Clark Fork Mountain Cats in Superior. Before their game, four seniors were escorted onto the floor and recognized for their high school achievements. Alberton’s Montanna Baughman was escorted by her little sister, Emmah Baughman who also plays on the varsity team. After graduation she plans on attending the University of Montana and study business. She play also plays basketball, and is in BPA and on the student council.

SUPERIOR – Superior recently made the global map as the Big Sky Motel was presented with a Certificate of Excellence as one of the top-performing business of the website TripAdvisor.

SUPERIOR – The Superior Bobcats brought home an amazing 60 to 18 victory against Granite Thursday evening.

Superior Senior Night casts spotlight
It was Senior Night in Superior on Oct. 19 where Alberton students Michael Spence and Korey Radford were introduced, along with Superior’s Sophia Krutilla, who is one of the team’s managers. Sophia was escorted onto the field by Jeff, Kristy and Madison Mask, and her parents are Kirk and Jenny Krutilla. After graduation, she plans on attending the University of Montana to study physical therapy. “I want to thank my parents for all of their love and support. My friends for making my past four years unforgettable and the Mask family for letting me eat their food and take naps at their house,” she wrote in a statement.

Superior pool to stay closed; repair costs studied
The Superior swimming pool is in bad shape and the Town Council recently voted to keep the pool closedl until testing can be done to determine whether it can be sufficiently repaired. During the Dec. 11 Superior Town Council meeting, Public Works Supervisor Roger Wasley explained that over 2 million gallons of water was added over the 10 weeks the pool was open last summer.

SUPERIOR – The Superior Rockies season came to an end June 6, as they were narrowly defeated in the second round of the season ending tournament in Plains.

Superior District Forester earns Master Cruiser certification
SUPERIOR - Superior Ranger District employee Ed Bringenberg was awarded the title of Master Cruiser earlier this month in a ceremony at the Lolo National Forest Supervisor’s Office at Fort Missoula. Bringenberg, a Presale Forester on the Superior District, joins the ranks of only a handful of timber cruising specialists throughout the Northern Region to earn the Master Cruiser certification from the Regional Forester.
