The Christmas season is over? No, not entirely. The Eastern Orthodox, the second largest Christian communion in the world, numbering approximately 1,200,000 adherents in the United States, celebrated Christmas on Jan. 7, which is Dec. 25 in the Julian calendar. The Gregorian calendar, the reformed Julian Calendar we use today, was implemented by a Catholic Pope, Pope Gregory XIII, in 1582, but to this date it has not been recognized for religious observances by many Eastern Orthodox Churches around the world.

Preparation is key in the fight against the flu this season

If you have ever had the flu, you know how miserable it is. I’ve seen hundreds of cases as a doctor, but I also know from personal experience. To give my family and myself the best odds against the flu, we get the flu shot every year. This year is what the CDC calls a “widespread outbreak”, much like the Swine flu outbreak of 2009. Most of the US, including Montana, is included in this outbreak, and its range is increasing daily. The flu hit a bit earlier this season than expected, so we need to be prepared for a second wave later in the season.

He was survived by his brothers Dale husband of Ethel Martin of Ephrata, PA; Lynn husband of Charlotte Martin of Denver, PA; Lorin Martin of Adamstown, PA and his sisters Betty Anne Irons of Manhattan Beach, CA; Nelda Bauder of New Holland, PA; Willa wife of Luke Ulrich of Denver, PA; Norma Knowles of Bradenton, FL; Myrna wife of Willis Eberly of Reinholds, PA. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephew and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lucy Martin.

Libby wins at Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic with Clark Fork in sixth place

Libby won the annual Bob Kinney Wrestling Classic held over last weekend in Superior. Teams from all over Western Montana traveled through several inches of snow and cold to reach the high school gym for a day of intense competition. Clark Fork Mountain Cats came in sixth place with a score of 81.5.
