While serving on the Public Health and Human Services Standing Committee during the last session, many bills regarding health related issues came before us. One bill addressed the need for disclosing any financial interest that a referring health care practitioner might have associated with a referral. While no law was enacted, the disclosure concern was addressed by placing the information on the Montana Informed Patient Web Site.

Christmas, credit card fees
Now that Christmas is over and all the gifts unwrapped and being enjoyed, many of us will reluctantly turn our thoughts to having to pay for all that generosity. For most of us that means paying off the credit card bill. That also means paying interest on the balance if we don't pay it off in one payment; and possibly late payment fees, underpayment fees, balance transfer fees, and if you complain, a bad attitude fee.

An update from Rep. Ingraham
I recently received information from the Montana Healthcare Foundation regarding their search for five trustees to oversee the $40.2 million proceeds from the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana that I wanted to bring to your attention. Montana Code Annotated (MCA) §50-4-720 prevents public officials such as myself and anyone who is an officer, director, or staff member of either Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana or Health Care Service Corporation from serving as trustees. Others, such as yourself, who might have a strong interest in healthcare programs and services in Montana may want to consider such an undertaking.
