A pair of easy wins and an eye-opening defeat was the case for the Western 14C conference number one seed Superior Lady Bobcats basketball team during the final week of the regular season.
Opening of Rock Creek mine moving forward
Two representatives from Revett Minerals Inc. gave a presentation Wednesday in Thompson Falls as to the status of the Rock Creek Mine they plan to open in north Sanders County, saying they only want to be “good neighbors and part of the community.” Part of their contribution to the community will be the addition of about 300 new jobs.

One year later, fire still haunts Chippy Creek
It has just been a little over a year since the Chippy Creek fire burned nearly 100,000 acres. Since that time the U.S. Forest Service has been working to see what they can do to help the area that was ravaged by the fire.

An intimate evening with country music star John King will be held on Aug. 15 from 6 to 10:30 pm at the Alberton Gorge Ranch. Tickets are available at albertonrailroadday.com and proceeds benefit the Alberton Farm to School Program.

The third annual Clark Fork Adventure Challenge was seen as a huge success for organizers as numbers doubled for entries on Sunday at the Sanders County Fairgrounds.

Sometimes the best laid plans don’t work out such is the case with Mineral County’s bid for a full-time victims advocate position. Shirley Iwata was recently hired as a part-time domestic and sexual violence advocate with grant funds made available through the Office on Violence Against Women. Iwata has held a number of position with the county, including previous work with the attorney’s office, treasurer’s and health department.
