Wildfires produce bumper crop of morel mushrooms
Several National Forests in Montana and northern Idaho began issuing permits for mushroom harvesting on May 7. The following units will be issuing both personal-use and commercial permits:

Timed tickets to manage traffic on Glacier park's Sun Road
Montana's Glacier National Park will implement a timed ticketed entry system again next summer — from Memorial Day weekend through the weekend after Labor Day — to manage traffic on the scenic Going-to-the-Sun Road, park officials said Monday.

Markkaya Jean (Bugsy) McGann Gullett of Superior became our “angel in heaven” on May 22, 2015 as a result of a car accident. She was born May 14, 1992. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Plains Bible Chapel, 243 Combest Creek Rd, Plains, MT , with Potluck meal afterward (turn left past the fairgrounds).

Robert Earl Stephens
Robert Earl Stephens, of Paradise, Montana, died at his home of natural causes on November 15, 2013. He was 74. Robert was born June 1, 1939, to Wendell and Helen Boyer Stephens in Missoula, Montana. He was raised east of Paradise on the family farm, and graduated from Plains High School in 1957. He worked on the family farm with his father and brother until the farm was sold.

June Sanks
June Irene Sanks was born in a small farm house near Hinsdale, Montana on July 23, 1929 and passed away on Jan. 17, 2019 at St Luke Long Term Care Facility in Ronan, Montana. At the age of four June’s family left eastern Montana and made their way to Sanders County and found a home on the western end of the “Eddy Flats” east of Thompson Falls. She rode the bus for 12 years to school and graduated from Thompson Falls High School in 1947.

TRACS Variety Show raises money
Well over 100 animal lovers gathered this weekend to have some fun and support a great cause as Thompson River Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) conducted its fifth annual fundraiser. The “Pretty Darn Good” Variety Show last Saturday and Sunday was the third of its kind for TRACS.

Five suspected drug traffickers plead not guilty
Five suspected drug traffickers who allegedly smuggled ecstasy into Mineral County pleaded not guilty to criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute in their initial court appearance July 2. The maximum penalty for the offense is up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $50,000.
