In 1941 Donny, a kid my age, came to my mother’s 8 week summer camp on our dairy farm in southern Wisconsin.  Donny was a leader, full of ideas and fit right in.  We rode horses, fed pigs and chickens, rode the hay wagons, played in the woods, fished, swam, sang and ate piles of food.

Plains softball, baseball, T-ball, soccer ready to roll

Wildhorse Sports Association is excited to be gearing up for the Spring 2019 sports season. This spring will see U8, U10, U12 and U14 softball girls take the fields. Cuteness in oversized T-shirts will be showcased with two T-Ball teams of boys and girls, as well as a Minors team, Majors team and a Babe Ruth team of young boys from Plains and the surrounding area. Soccer also showed growth this year and has a co-ed U10 soccer team, a girls’ U11 and boys’ U11 soccer teams as well as a boys’ U14 team, girls’ U15 team, and a co-ed U18 team.

Hot Springs celebrates Chinese New Year

The community of Hot Springs held its seventh annual Chinese New Year parade on Saturday, Jan. 27. The parade featured approximately 40 adults and children carrying banners. Several people played homemade drums and there were homemade wind instruments. Several men and women helped move a large Chinese dragon and some people were dressed as a black and white sheep. The parade began in front of the Camas Organic Market worked up and down Main street and then back up and down a second time down to stop at the barbershop, where there were several bonfires, drinks, and Asian style food for anyone who was interested.

It had always been 12-year-old Michael Tasakos’ dream to either donate money to a children’s hospital or to open his own children’s hospital. Sadly, that dream came to end Aug. 9, when Tasakos and his mother, 37-year-old Alexia Laslo, were shot by Laslo’s boyfriend, Israel Keyes, 39. Keyes then took his own life.
