FWP to stock 432,000 trout in area lakes and ponds
Despite heavy budget cuts in the Fisheries Division of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP), Mineral and Sanders counties will still see lakes and ponds stocked with approximately 432,000 fish over the next five years. Fish, Wildlife and Parks owns or operates 12 fish hatcheries and stocks 50 million fish in 836 lakes and reservoirs, and 23 rivers and streams annually.

Curtin leaves car show on a high note
It was another record breaker for the annual Old Schoolhouse Rock Car show, something which committee chairman Mike Curtin can be proud of as he announced his retirement from the event during the show on Saturday.

Pilot survives airplane crash on Lookout Pass
A small experimental airplane crashed on Interstate 90 on Tuesday, May 22, around 2 p.m. on Lookout Pass near the Idaho/Montana border. The pilot appeared to be OK and walked away from the accident. However, he was taken to Mineral Community Hospital with back pain and some bruising.

I-90 closed for two hours due to elk collision
A small SUV hit an elk, causing a chain reaction on Interstate 90 on Thursday, May 24, that led to both lanes being closed for several hours. After hitting the elk, a pickup truck hauling a camper, rear-ended the SUV and then a semi-truck hit the camper and jack-knifed into the other lane, according to Frenchtown Fire Department representative, Mel Holtz. Though his department was not on the scene, he followed up with a report.

The Montana Department of Transport-ation is seeking comments on a proposal to resurface about 5.7 miles of Highway 257 southeast of Superior in Mineral County.

Semi rolls over on Perma Bends
Last Wednesday afternoon, a semi traveling west on Highway 200 rolled over causing congestion at the Perma Bends for more than four hours.

he Flat Creek Iron Mountain Mine Superfund project is nearing completion with just some reseeding, a few tailings and finding a source for alternative drinking water left to do, according to a report by Steve Ackerlund, the Superior Technical Assistance Committee consultant. Minor revisions are still being made to the latest Removal Action Construction Completion Report with final decisions schedule to be made this week.
Delmer Lewis Garrison, 90
Delmer Lewis Garrison, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 5, 2018 at Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains. Del was born May 30, 1927, in Thompson Falls, (the last year of the Ford Model T).

Thelma (Virginia) Butler, 90, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends. Virginia was born July 31, 1927 in Boone County Missouri and grew up there until the age of 7 when her father came to Hot Springs to work for her Uncle Noble LaRue at the Hot Springs Mercantile. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1945. She immediately started working in Hot Springs for Holt Motor Sales and later for Cobeen Conoco Service, Ashcraft Lumber Co, City Drug Store, Hot Springs Mercantile and eventually substituting at the Town Hall.

News quickly spread across the state that Nevada rancher and Constitutionalist Cliven Bundy was to visit Sanders County last weekend. The Bundy family got national attention for its 2014 armed confrontation with federal authorities in Nevada.
