Melanie's Christmas Column: Channeling the spirit of Christmas every day

Every Christmas season, the feelings that evoke the pleasantries of home, family, love and good tidings are amplified by the holiday cheer. The main streets in the little towns are brighter, the smiles on everyone’s faces bigger. Christmas brings that out in all of us, and it starts from an early age.

Effort to Put Montana First

The legislative session is now officially over. We finished last Thursday so now the results get discussed, assessed and scrutinized. Many of the results can not be “fairly” evaluated for days, months, or even years but we are all hopefull to have made the right decisions. At this point, the blame game also kicks into gear. Again I say time will tell the true story and we don’t need the blame game like we see and hear on the national level. My decisions were made to try and do the best for my constituents and Montanans, not for a rating or score.

Obituary; Carol Ann Lynch

71 years ago this month in Colorado Springs, Colorado I came to be daughter to Lyndon and Virginia Curtis and little sister to the late Larry Curtis. I had a happy childhood and being an “Air Force brat” I got to go to a lot of neat places in Europe. Graduated in Florida and went into the work force. Waited tables, did inventory and payroll for various companies. Met and married Mark Lynch and had two sons who survive me now; Scott P. Lynch and Mathew C. Lynch. Soon Mark and I went our separate ways and I started my AAFES career (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) for the next 27 years. Had many assignments all across the U.S., met a lot of people and made good friends, also met Helen who became my life partner. I retired from AAFES and went to Okinawa and worked for the Marine Corp until it was time to really retire. I had always wanted to live in log cabin in the woods so that is how we came to live in De Borgia MT until I was called to my final assignment on 1 Feb 2015. I had and lived a great life, loved and was loved; and by the way... did I mention my name?... Carol Ann Lynch.

OUTDOORS: City slicker spends day with game warden

SANDERS COUNTY – Waking up early on a Sunday morning has never been part of my routine. Sunday’s are a day to relax and sleep late. I might go to the office around noon or so to finish up the stories for press time or whatever else I have to do. The annoying buzz of my iPhone alarm goes off promptly at 6:25 a.m. The ringing is loud and hits your like the bitter cold of a winter’s day. Today marks my first day in the woods of Montana.

Danielle's column: Getting active

I have been inexcusably lazy for the past eight months. Last summer when I was unemployed back home I had nothing to do but run. Then when I moved to Plains I dedicated all of my time and energy to reporting, and though it pains me to admit, my couch.
