Allie (Bailey) Adams, 93

Allie Fair Adams, 93, passed away Nov. 5 at the Mineral Community Hospital Long-Term Care Facility. Known locally as the Cat Lady, she cared for the many animals people abandoned on her property. She couldn’t stand to see any animal or person in need and her compassion knew no bounds. Her open and giving nature enabled her to help many in this community either on the job at the Mineral Community Hospital and Nursing Home or in her private life. Yet few knew she was a gifted primitive artist who painted landscapes which she gave away freely. She had wanted to spend her retirement painting, but, instead, she spent it as she had her entire life, caring for others.

Where do spiders go in the winter?

They’re creepy and they’re crawly and, aside from plastic replicas set out as a Halloween decoration, they are not wanted in the house. They are spiders and as the weather starts to cool, they scurry to warm places including homes.

In the Spirit of Sanitation

Happy New Year! The Environmental Health staff in Sanders County are looking forward to 2008 for many reasons, number one being the Revolving Loan Fund. The state bureaucrats finally gave the county the first installment for the loan fund. This program is unique to the state of Montana, and is a wonderful opportunity to help you afford replacing your failed or obsolete septic system. Why should you care? Well, even if you don't care about the environment, and your well has not been contaminated by a poorly functioning septic system, you probably care about your family's safety.

Student art covers walls of hospital

It started in October of 2007. Patient Gayle Keeny was in the hospital with pneumonia and trying to walk to recover. While walking in a hallway she noticed a large blank wall. Keeny, being a member of the Sanders County Arts Council (SCAC), thought to herself, why isn’t there art on the wall. Within two weeks, she and another Council member worked with the hospital to start the first art show on the wall.
