Gaylord Green lived in Haugan and graduated from St. Regis High School in 1958. He received an appointment to the Air Force Academy where he graduated with a degree in engineering science, followed by a master’s in aeronautics/astronautics at Stanford.

Luckily, the sixth grade students in Superior didn’t have to answer that question. Because they were at Outdoor School all last week. Twenty-seven students along with teachers and staff members headed up to Savenac Historical Nursery for a week of outdoors games and education.

Students learn river rescue skills on Alberton Gorge
On an unusually warm, 70-degree spring day in early May, around 20 students clad in wetsuits and drysuits willingly submerged into the still freezing Alberton Gorge on the Clark Fork River. With waters already past flood stage at 20,000 cubic feet per second — a unit used to determine river flow — students enrolled in the Swiftwater Rescue Technician course had the perfect opportunity to learn river rescue skills at challenging water levels.

Feeding families in Mineral County
November 2011 was the first Holiday Food Drive initiated by Mineral Community Hospital (MCH) to help those in need in our county through the holidays. Each year since, the MCH has gathered more in poundage, as well as distribution locations between Alberton and St. Regis.
