Superior qualifies for free hot lunch program
Thanks to the efforts of Superior School’s administrative staff, the school will qualify for the free hot breakfast and lunch program. Last week, the Mineral Independent reported that Alberton and Superior schools were slated to lose their status for the free hot lunch program. However, staff members reviewed the state records for students who qualify and found those reports out of date.

Public comment sought on grant proposal
The Mineral County Commissioners and the District XI Human Resource Council will be holding a public meeting on April 25, at 1:30 p.m., in the commissioners meeting room to hear public comment on a grant that the commissioners are considering to sponsor on behalf of the council.
Trotters play tough
The Plains Trotters showed a lot of fight this weekend going extra innings in two games. However, the Trotters fighting through sickness and minor injuries couldn't hold on to finish those games off against Drummon on Saturday and against Deer Lodge on Tuesday. However, in a normal paced game on Thursday the Trotters were able to beat Troy 4-3 behind a complete game from Karlena Heward who struck out seven in the contest. Heward also led the team with the bat as she collected a pair of doubles in a 2 RBI effort in the game.

Changes in 2011 taxes
According to Terry Stevens, the new manager at Bratz & Associates, CPAs, more than a few taxpayers may have a delay in the filing of their 2010 tax returns. The start of the 2011 Income Tax filing season is here for the majority of taxpayers. The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 were signed into law on December 17th, 2010. According to the IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman, there will be a delay of processing of the following types of returns, as the IRS is in the process of reprogramming their processing systems.
Christmas Tree Permits on sale
Christmas tree permits are now available at all Lolo National Forest Ranger District offices. Permits are limited to three per family and cost $5 each.

ATSDR to perform health screenings to check lead/arsenic levels in children
This summer, July 13-July 15, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will be conducting lead screenings in an effort to fill in missing information from the public health assessment that was completed back in January in relation to the lead and arsenic contamination in the soils as Superior was listed as a superfund site.

Snowmobiles and poker dominated the Trout Creek area over the weekend as riders from all over the region as far away as the states of Washington and Idaho competed for money and prizes during the Poker Run on Saturday February 12.
