Burn Permits Required Starting in May
On Saturday, May 1, fire season officially begins and burn permits will be required for all outdoor burning in Montana.

Truck driver pleads no contest in death of St. Regis resident
Sergey Buslayev, a truck driver who was responsible for 2008 death of St. Regis resident Jerry Parrick pleaded no contest to the charges of criminal endangerment on Jan. 27 in Mineral County District Court. Buslayev was sentenced to time served.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Letter of Intent PUBLIC NOTICE The Montana DNRC, Plains Unit is notifying the public as to our intent to harvest dead and dying timber damaged by the Lazier Creek 3 Fire. The project, referred to as the Twin 40's Fire Salvage, is located approximately 33 air miles north of Plains, Montana, Section 14 T25N R27W. This fire salvage sale would most likely involve 50 acres on two 40 acre parcels of State Trust Lands, in the Twin Lakes Creek drainage. A total volume of approximately 100 mbf or 600 tons of timber would be harvested. The objective is to salvage fire killed timber before it loses merchantability. This timber harvest would likely be accomplished in the fall/winter of 2017-2018. Thompson Falls sees improvements for summer months
THOMPSON FALLS - This summer Thompson Falls has some new and safer open space on Main Street. The old and unsafe sheds, back stop, and bleachers have been taken down at Ainsworth Field. The City Council has referred the future of the field to the Thompson Falls Parks Planning Committee. They are in the planning stages for the Field and at this point several possible uses are being discussed, but for this summer the field is being enjoyed as a spacious play and camping area. In addition to its usual daily uses for sports and a wide open play area for people and their pets, we have a circus coming to town on June 22 and a large bicycle touring group, Ride Idaho, coming in and camping there the 6th of August.

Woman allegedly tries to drown baby in Clark Fork near Superior
A Missoula woman is facing attempted deliberate homicide charges after allegedly trying to drown her baby in the Clark Fork River last Wednesday.
FedEx truck driver sentenced
Missoula County District Court Judge Dusty Deschamps sentenced New Jersey truck driver Sergey Buslayev Wednesday morning to 10 years in Montana State Prison for negligent homicide. Buslayey, 57, lost control of a FedEx tractor-trailer combination driving towards an accident scene on Interstate 90 in 2008, killing a volunteer firefighter.
