TRACS Variety Show raises money
Well over 100 animal lovers gathered this weekend to have some fun and support a great cause as Thompson River Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) conducted its fifth annual fundraiser. The “Pretty Darn Good” Variety Show last Saturday and Sunday was the third of its kind for TRACS.

Sanders County Deputy Steven Spurr, slid his sport utility vehicle sideways over the steep edge of an embankment on Buffalo Bill Road off of Highway 200 outside of Plains on Thursday evening at about 5:05 p.m.

Alberton kids enjoy story time
Books on bears and stuffed teddy bears to compliment them were set out on a table last week in Alberton’s senior center. Connie Acker waited patiently for moms to arrive with their young children in tow so the first story time of the New Year could get underway. As you might have guessed, bears were the theme and books featuring bears were on tap to be read.

Local long shot hits bullseye
Thompson Falls graduate Nicole Hagedorn set a National Record by shooting a 431-5X in the junior, open category of the F-Class Long Range Regional at the Deep Creek Range in Missoula on Sept. 24-26.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, at approximately 10 a.m. a three-car collision occurred several miles East of Plains on Highway 200.

Ski run boasts deep powder, early opening
If it’s going to be cold, there might as well be snow on the ground. And if there is going to be snow on the ground then there ought to be enough to enjoy the outdoor recreation of activities such as skiing and snowboarding.
Gearing up for Christmas program
Nancy Garcia is once again in the process of organizing the Superior-St. Regis sponsored annual Christmas Ecumenical service in December. The event, which saw 190 attendees last year, started more than 50 years ago when the Methodist ladies started getting together to hold Christmas parties in the church basement.

Shocked by disrespect
On Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m., in the Mineral County Military Cemetery in Superior, Montana, I laid my father to rest. He was a WWII Veteran who was wounded on D-Day and also in the Battle of the Bulge. My father was later awarded the Bronze Star.

A recent story in the Clark Fork Chronicle called into question Marcia Boris’ qualification for the office of Mineral County Attorney. If the reporter of that story had asked me if Marcia was qualified, my answer would have been “yes, most definitely” on two bases:

Classics convene in Trout Creek
Hillborn fuel injector stacks, triple-deuce carburetors set atop cast aluminum Edelbrock intake manifolds, drop-top goats and flawless barn finds—just a sampling of what could be found at the Cool Summer Nights Car Show in Trout Creek on Sept. 11. Cars from all over, accompanied by their proud owners, gathered in front of the Lakeside Motel to share, gawk and brag, but mostly to get to know one another.
Plains library participates in grant
The Plains Public LibraryDistrict, in conjunction with the Lincoln County Public Libraries, today announced that it has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host The Big Read in Lincoln and Sanders counties. The Lincoln County Public Libraries and their partners are one of 75 not-for-profits—including arts and cultural organizations; libraries; and universities—to receive a grant to host a Big Read project between Sept. 2010 and June 2011. The Big Read gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 31 selections from U.S. and world literature. The Lincoln County Libraries have participated in two previous sessions of The Big Read. This year, the libraries have partnered with two Sanders County libraries, the Plains Public Library District and the Thompson Falls Public Library, for an even more exciting experience. The Big Read in Lincoln and Sanders Counties will focus on the stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe, with activities scheduled to take place in Oct. and Nov. 2010.

TRACS first annual river wine festival a hit
surgically re-constructed knee couldn’t dampen Thompson River Animal Care Shelter president and co-founder Wanda Thorpe’s spirits last Saturday evening as more than one hundred Clark Fork Valley locals showed their support for TRACS by attending its First Annual River Wine Festival. All proceeds from the fundraiser, hosted by the Rocky Point Ranch, will go to support TRACS.
Students talk to lawmakers about underage drinking
A week of exciting, fun activities is at hand for the community of Superior. Several activities including a kids' camp, nightly barbecue, a pig roast and a special musical presentation have been planned for the week of August 1 through August 5. Superior Community Church along with a team of youth and their leaders of Christ Church of Federal Way will be presenting these events and working throughout the week to bless the local community.
