Armed Forces Day honors two local residents
For the second time, the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) paid homage to local veterans on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20. Veterans from World War I were honored, along with veterans from WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Veterans, along with family and friends gathered in the Superior High School gym at 1 p.m. Rep. Denley Loge was the emcee for the afternoon, with musician Jack Gladstone and Army Sgt. Maj. Michael Jarnevic as guests.

Superior Volunteer Fire Chief John Woodland reported he received advice to submit a proposal to the Community Development Block Grant program with regards to creating town offices in the fire hall.

Patients at Mineral Community Hospital will soon benefit from studies using the latest in X-ray technology made possible through a grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust’s Rural Healthcare Program.

Don “K” Kaltschmidt, a Flathead Valley automobile dealer and known Republican voice, was reelected last weekend to a third term as chair of the Montana GOP.
Hunters Education course to take place this month in Superior
A Montana Fish, Wildlife and, Parks Hunter Education course will be offered this month in Superior at the junior high school and fairgrounds. The five nightly classes take place from 6 to 9 p.m., July 22 through July 26 at the junior high. Saturday’s session (July 27), is from 9 am to 4 pm during which a field course, live firing, and the final test are administered. Lunches are advised for Saturday. Class requirements, rules, and registration are finalized at the mandatory orientation on Monday, July 15 at 7 pm at the 4-H building (Mineral County fairgrounds).

The Veterans Administration has recently broken ground on their new facility in Missoula to manage health care needs of local vets.
Current Medicaid cuts not major impact on Mineral Community Hospital
On April 20, the Community Medical Center in Missoula announced the elimination of 16 employees due to state budget cuts at the rate of more than $6 million. The majority of those cuts were to the Medicaid reimbursement rate, which directly impacts hospitals across Montana. Kalispell Regional Healthcare is expected to lose $6.6 million in Medicaid funding this year and Bozeman Health is reporting a $2.6 million cut in reimbursements.
Congressional candidates discuss indigenous issue
More needs to be done at the federal level to ensure Native Americans in Montana have equitable access to things like healthcare and voting, candidates for Montana’s western congressional district said on Thursday.

St. Regis highway receives beautification project
St. Regis residents and travelers through the area can’t miss the bright orange traffic cones and construction lining Montana 135 just north of the four-way stop through town. The project is part of the St. Regis Resort District Enhancement and Beautification Project, which began on June 5.

The Mineral County Republicans held their annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday. The county party serves as a platform to raise money for the county party and to introduce the republican candidates that are seeking local offices this election year. Congressman Denny Rehberg served as the keynote speaker for night's festivities. The event took place at the Rock-n-Rodeo in Superior.
