EPA completes cleanup of mine waste in Superior

MINERAL COUNTY -  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced the completed cleanup of contaminated mining waste within the town of Superior that began on September 8, 2013.  As part of this project, mining waste containing heavy metals including antimony, lead and arsenic that exceeded human health thresholds was removed from 38 residential properties and the Mineral County Airport and placed at a repository in Wood Gulch.

Firefighters contain 65-acre Bald Hill Fire

Lolo National Forest Firefighters were successful Saturday in containing the Bald Hill Fire on the Superior Ranger District, keeping it to 65 acres. Firefighters are continuing to mop up the fire area and will monitor it for fire activity. All other initial attack fires on the Lolo National Forest from recent lightning were also contained today.

DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Trust Land Management Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of $5,103.00, representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. Award of the timber sale is conditional upon approval of the timber sale by the State Board of Land Commissioners at their January 17, 2017 meeting.
