Importance of coordination

In the Sanders County Ledger, one Doug Ferrell commented on Ron Olfert’s pro-coordination article. Mr. Ferrell’s long-winded comments about “coordination” missed the whole point of the process. Or he never attended the meetings that were held at which County Commissioners promised to send letters demanding coordination; or if he did, chose to not listen, or is merely a plant to denigrate Ron Olfert and those who seek to limit Federal and State involvement in deciding the fates of local economics.

Superior sixth-grader competes in Treasure State Spelling Bee

On Saturday, students from all over Montana traveled to Rocky Mountain College to compete in the Treasure State Spelling Bee. Superior student, Payton Milender had won the Mineral County Spelling Bee Feb. 22 and qualified for State. She was number 32 and joined 58 challengers in Billings vying for the grand prize.

Eight local residents recently passed their EMT class and are now ready to take the state exams. Superior teacher, Beau Servo; St. Regis teacher, Laura Jarvis; Superior High School student’s Matt Buchanan and Nathan Lapinski; Mineral Community Hospital employee, Jess Hope; AEMT, Anita Parkin; ambulance driver, Michael Bowen; and Brendan McEldry.

Members head to State FFA Convention

St. Regis students competed at the Montana State FFA Convention in Bozeman on April 3 through April 6. Member Emma Hill was a finalist in the FFA’s Most Inspirational Contest, where she wrote an essay about inspiring others to become members. Although no students placed in the top ten, they improved their scores from previous FFA attempts. Students competed in Livestock Evaluation and Farm Agribusiness Management at the convention. Chapter members also acted as a voting delegate for changes to the State FFA Constitution, volunteered at the Salvation Army, student success workshops and nightly open sessions. Another FFA Convention will be held on May 6-7 in Great Falls where members will compete in Agriculture Communications, Vet Science, Food Science, Horse Evaluation and Employment Skills.

4-H shooters place at state

Anna Dryden qualified for the Nationals 4-H Invitational Shooting Sports Tournament in Grand Island, Nebraska June 23-28! This honor comes to her after competing in 3 Position Sporter Air Rifle and taking first place in her age bracket at the Montana State Tournament in Bozeman. Her sister Mary also competed at Bozeman in Air Pistol and placed eighth in her age group. Shooters from all across the state competed in the event.

Local schools to get double testing waiver

SANDERS COUNTY – Montana received a green light on a testing waiver from the U.S. Department of Education, eliminating double testing in the area. Montana was the first state to receive the testing waiver.
