Sanders County Fair Commission meeting

On Wednesday, Feb. 15 the Sanders County Fair Commission held their monthly meeting to discuss the last meeting, non-agenda items, old business, new business, and the current financial situation. Present for the meeting were; Fair Manager Dede Steinbach, Vice Chairman Jenny Garrison, Chairman Chris A. McGuigan, Wade Rehbein, Secretary Ruth Hamilton, Jim Newman. Roberta Smith was not present for the meeting.

Recently, Montana’s Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks recently announced they were reducing hunting licenses for mule deer in a large swath of Central and Eastern Montana.

Gary was born in Two Harbors, MN on May 28, 1942 to Wilfred Francis Ovitt and Mary Emma Coleman Ovitt (Pearson). He was second in a line of 13 kids. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on May 19, 2018. He fought a good fight of several health conditions, but finally surrendered to complications of diabetes and heart disease.

Jim Johnson meet kicks off track season St. Regis, Clark Fork athletes in top slots

The snow has finally melted on the fields, just in time for track season to begin at area high schools. Athletes from St. Regis, Superior and Alberton packed their gear and headed to Frenchtown for their first meet of the season, the Jim Johnson meet. Johnson is a retired teacher from Alberton and started the tournament nine year ago. He was there again this year, with his stop watch, timing runners as they crossed the finish line.

Power is addictive! So much so that the longer a person stays in a position where they can exert power over others, the stronger the addiction gets. Jim Elliott has been in such a position for a decade and a half and from a Jan. 17 newspaper article, it sounds like he's beginning to like that power too much.

As people gathered in the Alberton community center to enjoy an evening of games and a potluck dinner late last week, a peculiar character was perched in the corner of the room. It was a green furry fellow, with a pot-belly and snub-nosed dressed in a Santa suit. Dr. Seuss fans would immediately recognize the popular 1957 character from the story “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” ­— the famous Grinch himself.
