Bluehawks capture third at Deer Lodge
The Thompson Falls Bluehawks flew to third place with 114 points, only three points behind second place Deer Lodge at the Deer Lodge Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday. The Boulder boys took first place with nine points. The Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen finished in seventh place with 78 points.
Permissive levies passed; no voter approval required
All three Mineral County school boards have opted to increase permissive levies in order to meet current needs in the districts.
Community Notes
The annual Mineral Community Hospital Health Fair is Saturday, May 12, with vendors who are excited to share their services to Mineral County. There will be live demonstration of telemedicine between Providence St. Patrick Hospital and Mineral Community Hospital. This has become, literally, a life saver for patients in rural settings. The tele stroke equipment at Mineral Community Hospital has made a significant difference for several patients this year alone. Partnership Health Center-Mineral County will have their dentist on hand because many residents aren’t even aware that dentistry exists here anymore.

Public comment deadline on two big salvage projects is Dec. 1
The deadline for public comment period for a proposed tree harvest by the Lolo National Forest for the Sunrise and Sheep Gap fires is December 1, 2017. The Sunrise Fire Salvage project is located on both the Superior and Ninemile Ranger Districts about 7 miles southeast of Superior, primarily within the Verde, Sunrise, Meadow, and Quartz Creek drainages.

Local author's Montana book series was inspired by a dream
Mabel Ebner, 71, didn’t realize she was going to become an author late in life. But then she visited her brother near Corvallis. One day while at his cabin located in the Sapphire Mountains, she looked around at the scenery and thought, “wow, this would make a good book someday.”
Officials finalize plans for Growth Policy update
Mineral County officials are close to finalizing plans to update the Growth Policy by the beginning of next month.

Opening burning starts this month
Opening burning started as of March 1 and no permits will be needed until May 1. According to a pamphlet provided by the U.S. Forest Service, from March until August, burners are responsible for determining favorable conditions. However, keep in mind that the Montana Department of Environmental Quality regulates smoke emissions from open burning to prevent and/or reduce air quality impacts.

Food pantries vital in Montana
About half a dozen volunteers stood in an assembly line putting cans, boxes and bags of food into paper grocery sacks last weekend: 132 bags to be exact. These were bags of food to be distributed to local families in need so they can enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner.
Public comments sought for local environmental projects
The Mineral County Resource Coalition held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 2 in Superior. MSU Extension Agent, Kevin Chamberlain, chaired the committee. He said that he was glad to see people from several different departments and industry at the table.
