Clark Fork Lady Cats fall short of state tourney

The Western 13C District champion Clark Fork Lady Mountain Cats traveled to Manhattan Christian for Western C Divisionals on Nov. 1-3. The Cats faced Manhattan Christian in match 1 and were defeated, 25-11, 25-16, 25-14. On Friday, they faced Western C 14C District champion Plains, and lost in a five-set matchup: 25-22, 25-19, 15-25, 18-25, 15-10. The loss knocked the Lady Cats out of the tournament.

Superior District Ranger Carole Johnson met with Mineral County Commissioners on Jan. 19 with an update of current projects her department has been working on. The update included information about salvage projects in the area, the upcoming large mushroom harvest as a result of the fires, and personnel issues facing the department.

Local Emergency Planning Committee gears up for emergencies

The Mineral County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) met for their monthly meeting on January 7. Tim Read, Mineral County Planner and Retired Superior Fire Chief John Woodland presented a slide show to the group regarding the freezing rain and icy roads that occurred on December 4 which resulted in closing I-90. The highway was closed for several hours, and stranded about 200 trucks in the County. The group discussed the event and came up with suggestions and strategies that would help deal with similar emergencies in the future.

Ed passed away after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Ed went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 22, 2014 in the presence of his loving wife Eleanor, five children, and numerous grandchildren and close family members. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, sister Mary Lou, infant son Brian Keith, infant daughter Lynn Marie and grandson Parker Joseph.
