DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Forestry Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of ($11,105.00), representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. If the successful bidder is unable to execute the contract within 30 calendar days from the date the sale is awarded, the bid deposit will be retained by the Department as liquidated damages. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids. Telecommunications service provider Intermountain Infrastructure Group plans to install fiber optic cable between Thompson Falls and Plains.

Local firefighter heading to Seattle stairclimb competition

“356, 357,” is what a breathless Nathan Lapinski counted a few days after he and fellow firefighter, Jake Sporna, climbed a combined total of 714 stairs. It was part of a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Where the two had pledged to climb a story for every dollar donated with a total of $1,000 raised, which included additional donations.

High Bridge receives award

The Sanders County Commissioners and the High Bridge Committee were selected by the Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) to receive one of this year’s Excellence in Historic Preservation Awards.  They were selected for their “amazing efforts to restore and re-open the historic High Bridge.”  Three members of the committee, Tim Harlan, Katy Walton and Jean Polequaptewa, along with Carol Brooker, Commission Chair, made the trek to Helena Wednesday, Sept. 29, to accept the award.  A reception and ceremony was attended by 100 or so MPA volunteers, members and other honored guests at the Montana Club in Helena.

Resource Coalition talks about habitat improvement efforts

It was a full house on Tuesday, Dec. 4 as members of the Mineral County Resource Coalition held their monthly meeting. Representatives from government agencies, wildlife conservation organizations, business owners and community leaders met to discuss ongoing, as well as new projects and programs facing Mineral County.

V.F.W. Auxiliary gets in holiday spirit

It all came to a head Monday as wives, widows, and daughters of servicemen, who have been working since October, prepared care packages to be sent to soldiers and units abroad and statewide. 24 boxes were put together, filled with magazines, hygiene items, snacks, candies, handmade letters from Plains Elementary, crosswords and books, all of which was donated or bought by the ladies.

Sanders County Visual Artists hold monthly meeting

On Saturday Feb. 18 the Sanders County Visual Artists held their monthly meeting to discuss the upcoming events, activities, and the renovation of the Paradise Center. In attendance at the meeting was President Karen Thorson, Public Affairs officer Joy Nelson, Rick Harter, Ilene Littlefield, and Shirley Proctor.

Air rifle team scores big at Nationals in Nebraska

The members of the Montana State 4-H Air Rifle Team ended their season on a high note in Grand Island, Neb., for Nationals where the team placed third. Mineral County 4-H Shooting Sports team members included Howie Edison and Bailey Milender. The other state team members were Lyndy Powers from Gallatin Valley Sharpshooters, and Margo Spaulding from Kalispell Shooting Sports. The team headed to Nebraska for the five-day tournament held June 24-29.
