The afternoon of Saturday, March 18 at the Travel Center in St. Regis is still very fresh in the minds of those that were bystanders or first responders to a hostage situation and resulting shootout that left one person dead.
Committee meetings underway
Regular committee meetings got under way this week with a few bills being brought to the floor. Republicans supported SJ 1, which lengthens the amount of time proposed referendums can be introduced in the 2011 Legislature. An amendment offered by House Democrats to lessen the time, claiming laws shouldn’t be passed unless they have the Governor’s blessing, was rejected by House Republicans.

Dreams come true in Orlando for BPA students from local schools
Students from St. Regis, Superior and one from Alberton, joined nearly 400 members of Montana’s delegation for the National Business Professionals of America Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. Over 5,800 students from 23 state associations attended the week-long event which started on May 9.

SANDERS COUNTY- The new FWP Region 1 Game Warden, Troy Hinks, set out last week on Wednesday on a trip up a back country road to examine a set of animal trap sites that were found along some streams. His mission was to make sure that the trap sites were not live, were within a legal area, and to see what people were trapping for along the mountain road.

Instructors trained in techniques used by Ross gathered with students at the Grange to put on a workshop for would be artists from Sanders County.
