DAR honors founding with national day of service
The Kuilix Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, honored the anniversary of DAR’s founding Oct. 11, 1890, by participating in the DAR National Day of Service, an annual event in which chapters and individuals are encouraged to engage in meaningful service projects in their communities.

Haircut-a-thon raises money for student needs
PLAINS- Counselors for Plains Schools held the first annual “Haircut-a-Thon” fundraiser on Monday to help residents trim back their locks and raise money for the counseling program. Organizers said they were pleased with the turnout as people waited in line for a new look before school starts.

Officials address rash of crime
NOXON - Thursday night in the Noxon School multipurpose room, the second Sanders County “Building A Safer Community” meeting took place. As previously reported, these meetings are being held to determine ways to confront the wave of crime that has been felt in the western portion of the county. The focus of the meeting was for Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel, Undersheriff Lanny Hensley and Sanders County Commissioner Tony Cox to provide a report on the progress towards thwarting the crime spree in the county and to hear public opinion and comment.

KJFK-LP, a low frequency FM station, will host its annual pig roast and fundraiser with the initiative to raise money and community awareness, and expand its station Friday starting 4 p.m. at the Camas Recreation Center.

MINERAL COUNTY - The student leadership of the Elevate Youth Coalition, which includes Greg Wadsworth of Thompson Falls, Jena Paterson of Plains and Ashley Cheesman of St. Regis, had a long week of sun, rain and strategic planning. Each of the students traveled to Orlando, Florida to take part in the Community Anti Drug Coalitions of Americas’ National Youth Leadership Initiative Track.

The New Day Fellowship Church in St. Regis holds a men’s breakfast on the second Saturday of each month at the $50,000 Restaurant in Haugan, Montana. It starts at 7:30 and is open to guys interested in the gospel and holding themselves accountable to being better husbands and fathers as well as community members. Different chainsaw sharpening devices were debated last week.
