Recent deer and elk counts show increase in numbers
Fish Wildlife and Parks (FWP) biologist, Liz Bradley gave a presentation at a recent Mineral County Commissioners meeting. Every spring she does elk and deer surveys in Mineral County for Hunting Districts 200-203, 260 west, and 283 west for Region 2. This is her third year of flying with Mark Musick of Minute Man Aviation. Musick has been doing these surveys since late 80s and she commented that it was nice to have that consistency with same pilot for so many years.
Tribal leaders call for reinstatement of health department position
In a recent legislative hearing to help shape the state health department’s budget, tribal leaders traveled from across Montana to tell lawmakers they wanted to reinstate a tribal relations manager position that proponents say once provided valuable communication with the state Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Teams hit wet, frozen bases

Hunter check station totals tracking just above average
After the first two weekends of big game season, west-central Montana hunter check stations are collectively reporting elk and deer harvest totals slightly down from last season and just up from the five-year average.

The last Mineral County Business Directory that was printed was in 2015 and it was a publication of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce. Several attempts to update and print a new one was talked about and once or twice, a few people started but it was never completed.
