Superior, MT.— The Forest Service is seeking comment on the 12 Tamarack project, which describes a proposal to improve forest health, watershed conditions, and big game winter range within the Twelvemile Creek, Tamarack Creek, Mullan Gulch, and Boyd Mountain area located north and west of St. Regis.  Proposed activities include prescribed burning, timber harvest, non-commercial vegetation treatments, watershed improvements, recreation enhancements, and road and trail management activities.

Charles Lester “Charlie” Burnham, 81, died quietly at his home in Skagway on Oct. 12, surrounded by his family. Charlie was born on Dec. 26, 1928 in Plains, Mt to John and Dicie Mae Burnham. he worked summers with his dad in mines around that area. He graduated from Plains High School in 1947, and went to work in a sawmill.

Paradise home destroyed in blaze

A house in Paradise went up in flames Tuesday, Aug. 21. Fire crews from Plains-Paradise Rural Fire Department and Plains City Fire Department as well as Plains Ambulance were all in attendance at the residence on the corner of Central Avenue and First Street.

Sanders County was blanketed in snow and ice over the holiday week. Such beauty was admired by many, but also experienced by a few on the dangerous, icy roads over the course of the week. Several reports of rollovers and slide-offs were made; however, most of the incidents were non-injury.

Larry Michael Courser passed away on March 26th 2014 at the age of 64 following a short battle with cancer. Larry was born on May 2nd to Lawrence and Mary (Woods) Courser. Larry grew up in Montana and North Idaho, graduating from high school in Superior Montana. He spent much of his adult life logging with his father and farming on the family homestead located on Upper Pack River Rd. Larry had a great love for his family, gardening and his animals. He was often found working in his garden or relaxing with his dogs enjoying the sunshine, or working on a new project around the home. Larry is survived by his wife Nancy, two sons, Austin and Ethan, three daughters, Genda, Grace and Ruby, 4 grandsons and 3 granddaughters; his ex-wife Darlene Boyce Courser, one brother, Chris (Kim), seven sisters, Kaci (Hank) Courser Warren, Teri (Bob) Heinrich, Laura Courser, Judy (Randy) Wakefield, Tamara (Rex) Romagnolo, Leona (Jack) Knaggs, Lenor (Joe) Dupont, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence and mother, Mary. A small graveside service to celebrate his life was held on Friday, March 28 at the family gravesite located at 3676 Upper Pack River Rd. Larry’s family would like to thank Auburn Crest Hospice, Heather House (Sandpoint Cancer Services) and the Kootenai Cancer Center for their gentle caring and continued support during his brief illness. Donations in his name can be made to the Sandpoint Cancer Services, Heathers House or to the Panhandle Animal Shelter. Plains library participates in grant

The Plains Public LibraryDistrict, in conjunction with the Lincoln County Public Libraries, today announced that it has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host The Big Read in Lincoln and Sanders counties. The Lincoln County Public Libraries and their partners are one of 75 not-for-profits—including arts and cultural organizations; libraries; and universities—to receive a grant to host a Big Read project between Sept. 2010 and June 2011. The Big Read gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 31 selections from U.S. and world literature. The Lincoln County Libraries have participated in two previous sessions of The Big Read. This year, the libraries have partnered with two Sanders County libraries, the Plains Public Library District and the Thompson Falls Public Library, for an even more exciting experience. The Big Read in Lincoln and Sanders Counties will focus on the stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe, with activities scheduled to take place in Oct. and Nov. 2010.
