Local veteran uses art to support Israeli veterans
A Navy veteran hailing from Sanders County has found a unique way to honor and support Israeli veterans through the power of art. David Williams, who served several years in the U.S. Navy, has embarked on a heartfelt mission to create artwork for veterans in Israel, forging a bond of camaraderie across borders.

Students stage walk out at St. Regis
In a continued show of support for teachers at St. Regis Schools who were given notice of non-renewal and placed on administrative leave on May 10, 23 students walked out of the halls of the school shortly after breakfast Monday morning and sat on the football field throughout the school day.

Boy Scouts hold flag ceremony
The Plains Boy Scout Troop held a flag retiring ceremony with members of VFW Post 3596 on Pearl Harbor Day, last Dec. 7. The ceremony was held behind the Plains VFW Post, as was attended by members of the community, as well as area veterans.
Theatre performances coming to Mineral County
Two performances are coming to Mineral County this week. On Thursday, August 19, behind the high school, Julius Caesar will be performed as part of Montana's Shakespeare in the Parks 38th Season. Then, on August 21, in the St. Regis Community Park, get ready for some Adventures on the Western Stage. Both performances are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and are free to audiences.

SUPERIOR – Classroom discussion was given life when fourth graders from Superior Elementary took a field trip to tour Mineral Community Hospital while learning about the human body.
Hoot-owl restrictions lifted around western Montana
After recent rain and cooler temperatures, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks lifted fishing restrictions on several rivers around the state last week. Water temperatures have cooled enough in some areas to meet the criteria to lift fishing restrictions.

Hospital looking at implementing two projects
The Mineral County Hospital Board of directors have been working with a steering committee during the past year to explore the possibilities of major improvements to the facility, which, would improve patient care and increase efficiency if implemented. Last Tuesday, August 17, they held a public meeting to gather input on two proposed ideas: building a woody biomass energy system and the construction of a new hospital.

Actually, I have never identified with a party but rather with the character, philosophies and motivations of the individual. Two decades at Savenac
HAUGAN – For the past twenty years, the historic Savenac Nursery near Haugan has welcomed volunteers who come to the facility for one week in the summer to help maintain a place that was instrumental in rebuilding forests in the area after the devastating fire of 1910 swept through the region destroying nearly everything in its path.
