A pickup truck was struck by a train just west of the Cyr Exit on Tuesday morning, Feb. 19. The incident occurred at the railroad crossing off Daigle Lane. The driver was Roy Shutter, who graduated from Alberton High School and joined the Navy in 2012.

Fourth of July festivities were in full swing — thanks to the support of the St. Regis Community Council. Events started with a free pancake breakfast at the St. Regis School cafeteria Wednesday morning. It was followed by a parade at 11 a.m. Grand Marshal Rick Jasper led a caravan of horses, ATVs, bikes and various other floats down Old Highway 10. Mineral County sheriff and deputies directed traffic at the intersection as vehicles turned off Interstate 90 to find themselves in the middle of it all.

Fishermen, biologists, and concerned citizens gathered on Tuesday at the Thompson Falls Rural Fire Department headquarters to meet with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials to discuss an environmental assessment released by the FWP regarding the walleye population in Noxon Reservoir. The public meeting was called by the FWP to inform the public about the proposal which would aim to reduce the numbers of walleye in the reservoir.

Over 50 people packed a small classroom during the Alberton school board meeting to discuss the principal’s return after being placed on administrative leave for three weeks. While recently visiting with his grandfather, Superior High School Principal, Chris Clairmont, found out something new about his ancestors. His great, great grandfather was Adolph Lozeau, originally pronounced Adolphe L’Oiseau. He was of Canadian descent and homesteaded what is now called the Lozeau exit, located between Superior and Alberton.
