Mom, Gloria Gene (Goelitz) McGann was born to Walter and Hazel Goelitz in Rochester, NY on October 21, 1920. She spent her growing up years in Rochester and later, Long Island, NY. She also spent one year at Colby College in Maine, before marrying Douglas McGann. Mom and Dad worked in the family candy business, Goelitz Confectionary, whose specialty was candy corn, and which later became the Jelly Belly Candy Co.

PLAINS-Monday night Plains was treated to a full on professional production play. In a matter of just a day, the Plains High School gymnasium became a working theater with lighting, audio, props and an elegant backdrop. The Montana Repertory Theatre Company, based out of the University of Montana in Missoula, was the one responsible for transforming the center court into Long Island, New York, the setting for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, “The Great Gatsby.”

They diverged, chose their clubs and teed off. Their eyes followed their golf balls as they soared towards the horizon.

The Catholic Church in Superior will host Lenten lunches on Tuesdays until Holy Week (April 14-20). The first lunch was March 12 and then held on Tuesdays until April 9. Lunch is noon to 1 p.m. The Methodist, Assembly of God, LDS, Catholic and Community Churches will be responsible for each lunch. Donations will be accepted with proceeds supporting a local charity. At about 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, the eastbound onramp in Superior to Interstate 90 at Exit 47 became blocked when a tractor trailer carrying a variety of materials overturned where many trucks have accidents after a stop to fuel up. “Trimethylbenzene is the most worrisome because it is highly flammable, highly explosive and self-combustible,” said Incident Commander, Steve Temple with the Superior Volunteer Fire Department.
