With so many ways to get out into the woods there are equality numerous ways to become, lost, hurt or standard. This is where the members of the Sanders County Search and Rescue (SAR) come in. They are a professionally trained group of volunteers that come from all walks of life to ensure the safety of the many who explore the county.

Plains council discusses internet fiber fees
The regular Plains City Council meeting held Feb. 7 addressed several important items on the agenda.
Burn permits required starting May 1
On Wednesday, May 1, fire season officially begins and burn permits will be required for all outdoor burning in Mineral County. Burn permits are available from the Superior Ranger District by calling 822-3933 or by stopping by the District office at 209 West Riverside in Superior. There is no charge for the permit and it may be mailed to you upon your request. Please call early in the week if you would like to have your permit mailed out, so we’ll have time to get it to you by the weekend. Burn permits are issued by the Superior Ranger District as partners with local and state agencies. The State of Montana and local county government regulate outdoor burning on private land.
Progress report on town office project given at council meeting
At the June 10 meeting of the Superior Town Council, a report was given to councilors on the current status of the new town office project by Town Clerk Brenda Schneider.
Arkansas students lend a hand
The New Day Fellowship church in Haugen that serves the area from St. Regis to the Idaho state line had some welcomed help last week. A group of 18, 13 youth and five sponsors, traveled two days on a bus from Springdale, Arkansas, to provide assistance and encouragement for New Day Fellowship, which was launched back in August under the leadership of Dr. Alan Damron and his wife, Sarah. The group, which came from the New Hope Fellowship church, came to help out with tasks around the church in Haugen as part of their summer mission trip.
O-mok-see returns to St. Regis
Horse riders from all over the Northeast got together this weekend in St. Regis at the Lazy J Arena to participate in an o-mok-see sponsored by the River Valley Saddle Club.

There was standing room only at the Plains town council meeting on Monday evening as locals gathered to discuss the Chinese food vendor that stops in Plains every Friday.

The Mineral County Medical Foundation will be holding their annual spring fundraising event on May 12 and will feature local historian, Hal Stearns giving his talk entitled, “Montana Towns: Then, Now, Tomorrow.”

The Great Montana Stand Up Paddleboard Race will be the first of its kind on the lower Clark Fork River. The original date of April 29 just changed to Saturday, Aug. 19 which for many is a better date because of the warmer water.
